Smart Recycling Factory

The Smart Recycling Factory in the Pohlsche Heide is an innovation and competence center with the goal of becoming a model region for the circular economy and recycling in North Rhine-Westphalia. Researchers, companies, and startups are brought together at an active landfill site to develop practical, new product and project ideas.

Core components of the project include a research hall with laboratory space located directly on the landfill site, a "Science-to-Business Center" where innovations from research are transferred into application, and the "Recycling Road" – an area where prototypes are tested in real-life conditions and new methods are practically tested. The Smart Recycling Factory sees itself as a driving force for resource-efficient solutions in the region and beyond.
