Strategic planning of a digital platform for the building industry using the example of heroal
In the future, digital platforms will also be focused on as a megatrend in the building industry and will present heroal, as a system manufacturer, with the challenge of a strategic decision on a possible positioning in the platform economy. There are already various island platforms for the building life cycle. However, there is a lack of orientation in the existing platform landscape and new, promising platform business ideas for the building industry. The project plan for the strategic planning of a heroal platform provides a platform strategy for decision support in the company as well as concrete validated platform concepts for the implementation of the strategy.

Problem
Few areas show as much disruption potential in the course of digitalization as digital platforms. In the business-to-consumer (B2C) and consumer-to-consumer (C2C) sectors, digital platforms are a natural part of everyday life. A platform exists for almost every task. The success train of digital platforms has now also arrived in the industrial context (both B2B and B2C) and is on the verge of becoming a platform economy.
Prerequisite for the development of the opportunities are for heroal innovative solutions that bring the customers a high and perceived benefit and thus generate an adequate willingness to pay. The pure product business is here increasingly supplemented by data-based services to
enable customer-oriented problem solutions.

Results and Values
Platform Radar for the Construction Industry: The overview of the platform landscape developed in WP 1 is presented as a platform radar and provided for the innovation platform. This includes a brief characterization of the identified platforms (platform profiles) and their classification into the different platform types. By making it available as a knowledge module, the companies in the cluster benefit from (a) the overview in the context of the construction industry as well as (b) the development of an understanding of the different platform types and their underlying challenges. This knowledge can be transferred by the companies in turn to their own or other industries.
Platform Quick Check: The Platform Quick Check (cf. Wahl-O-Mat) allows companies in the cluster based on the business model of their own company and the market services offered to provide an initial orientation to the strategic opportunities in the platform economy. Based on the theses answered by the company, e.g. on aspects such as the willingness to take risks or the degree of standardization of the products, the Platform-O-Mat provides an initial recommendation for entry into the platform economy.
Guide for the development of a platform strategy: Many of the results developed in the project are based on the application of platform-specific methods within workshops. The collection of all methods used will be prepared and made available as a guide for the development of a platform strategy. Companies in the cluster are thus enabled by means of the guide to develop their own platform ideas and to work out the individual aspects and design options for their own platform ideas.
