AI as a strategic lever: Jowat SE develops company-wide AI strategy

The use of artificial intelligence is no longer just a technological experiment – ​​it is increasingly becoming a strategic success factor. Together with the Fraunhofer IEM, Jowat SE, a leading manufacturer of industrial adhesives, has initiated the development of a company-wide AI strategy. The project demonstrates how companies can unlock AI potential through a systematic approach and position themselves for long-term success – fully in line with the transfer objectives of the Engineering Automation Competence Center.

From initial pilot applications to a holistic AI approach

Jowat SE had previously tested individual AI applications successfully. However, a comprehensive vision, clear roles and responsibilities, and organization-wide integration were lacking for sustainable implementation within the company. The goal of the joint project was therefore to create the foundation for a structured and scalable introduction of AI across the entire company.

The process began with a comprehensive maturity analysis. Interviews with various departments systematically assessed the current status as well as digital and data-driven potential. This revealed that while extensive and valuable data sets already exist, further development is needed in the integration, structuring, and networking of this data.

Systematically identify and prioritize use cases

In several workshops, project participants identified a total of 47 concrete AI use cases, which were then evaluated, prioritized, and provided with clear recommendations for action. One example is the use case "Intelligent Design of Experiments," which can significantly accelerate the development of new adhesives. In addition to benefits and implementation effort, the scalability of the solutions was also factored into the evaluation.

Based on this, the researchers developed practical recommendations for the next steps: a shared strategic vision, transparently documented roadmaps, targeted pilot projects in the specialist departments, and early consideration of the scalability of AI solutions. Jowat SE now thus has a solid foundation for the further expansion of its AI activities.
